Forward-back. Back-forward. We're a 3rd of the way through the year, and markets have yet to establish any clear direction. The gains from one week are given up by losses the following, frustrating investors watching their portfolios tread water.

Capital markets are looking for a catalyst, a clear reason why markets should break out of their trading pattern. Presidential election years generally see stock markets higher, though this is due to correlation not causality. So what will it take to send markets higher? Time. Enough of it for the global economy to heal itself and resume it's natural upward trend. Patience is required here and focus -on the long term.
